Once you are rested by a night of comfort at Snowbird Lodge, you may be ready to explore the great outdoors in the Nantahala National Forest, the Cherokee National Forest, or the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. There are endless numbers of roads to enjoy by car, including the recently completed Cherohala Skyway, one of North Carolina's most beautiful drives. For the more adventurous souls, horseback riding into the mountains might be preferable.
While staying at the Lodge, you may want to travel off the beaten path. What better way to see some of the places that others may miss than by taking one of our canoes or lake kayaks for the day.

If traveling on the water is not your style, maybe you would enjoy a day of mountain biking on some of our area's many backcountry roads with one of Snowbird's mountain bikes. Perhaps you would like to try your hand at catching a trout on our streams. With 50,000 acres of water and 80 miles of gated forest service roads nearby Graham County is blessed with an abundance of exploration opportunities. Our "fleet" includes state of the art boats, bikes, fly rods and all of the gear you'll need for a great day in the outdoors. All are complimentary with your stay and available on a first come first served basis.

Whitewater rafting trips on the Nantahala River and the world famous Ocoee are a short drive away. We will be glad to make arrangements for you. Fly fishing on one of the wildwater trout streams in Graham County draws many visitors to our region. We can reserve a day of instruction with an experienced guide. See the EVENT PAGE for our Fly Fishing Event with local guide Daniel Boone of NANTAHALA FLY FISHING COMPANY.

Birdwatching is also very popular both at Snowbird Lodge and in the adjacent National Forest. Many people stay here to enjoy the spring migration of tanagers, grosbeaks and warblers, of which over 25 species migrate through Western North Carolina. Many of these birds also stay in the nearby forests to nest and raise their chicks and a walk along almost any forest trail in the area will produce an excellent variety of birds. Other species seen nearby include Broad-winged Hawk, Ruffed Grouse, Barred Owl and Great Blue Heron. A full birdlist is available at Snowbird Lodge. See the EVENT PAGE for our Birding Event with Simon Thompson of BIRDVENTURES.COM

While you're getting mentally refreshed with a visit to Snowbird, why not treat yourself to a relaxing and well-deserved massage from one of our certified and licensed massage therapists. David Baker and Karen Hurtubise are well-respected therapists from the nearby communities of Young Harris, GA and Brasstown, NC and we receive rave reviews on the restorative benefits of an hour-long massage with them from our guests. The hour-long massage sessions are a wonderful way to experience the best in peaceful massage and relaxation in the serenity of the mountains. David is a certified La Stone massage therapist. With the well-executed use of hot and cold stones he'll send you to another world with the best massage you'll ever experience. Please note that appointments are necessary and should be made at the time of your reservation.

Snowbird is a wireless internet hotspot so you can check your email or touch base with your office. Just turn on your laptop or check out one of ours and you are live and online anywhere here on the mountain.

One of the most enjoyable activities at Snowbird involves nothing more than sitting back and relaxing with a hot mug of cocoa and a good book from our 10,000 volume library. In addition, DVD players and movies are available for rental.

Whatever your desired level of activity, no matter what your recreational needs are, there is something special to do to occupy your time while at Snowbird Mountain Lodge.
